On Thursday, January 2nd families received notice via School Messenger that Alder Flats, Buck Mountain, and Winfield schools will be closed on January 6th, 2025 in order to allow staff to attend the funeral service for our colleague, Gina Foster. Thank you for understanding this decision to respond to the local needs of our community, staff and families during this time of sorrow. Our thoughts and condolences are with Gina's loved ones as we honour her dedication and impact to our communities over an impressive career in WRPS.
We recognize that all people grieve differently, however if you would like to access additional support through BMC for your child or your family, please don't hesitate to contact us. We will connect with you and determine how best we can help. Students will continue to have access to support from our schools' Family School Liason and to the support of staff members at BMC who they are connected to.
While schools are closed on January 6th, school staff will be at the school and available throughout the day (particularly in the morning) to answer phone calls or respond to emails if you have questions for us. Students and caregivers who have specific questions for teachers (perhaps regarding deadlines, etc) can reach out directly to those teachers, and if needed we can make appointments for those who would like to stop in at the school or meet virtually. Tuesday, January 7th we will welcome students and staff back to school from the holiday break, with a school wide assembly. We will present information about January exams and the exam schedule, the school wide ski trip in late January, review acceptable school behaviours, and will celebrate members of the Class of 2025 who have received acceptance to a post secondary school. Following this assembly during directed learning, regular classes will resume.
I am hopeful that students and families enjoyed quality time with loved ones over the holiday season and are eager to return to school to continue learning, growing, and thriving as a community.
